Baby Kangas review 1

1 September 2010

1. What style of Nappy is the Baby Kangas?

This is a OSFM Pocket nappy.

2. What was your first impression on receiving the nappy before washing or using?

I loved it. I loved that the pocket was in the front of the nappy and secured with a zipper. Great to keep out the yucks that can sneak their way into some with pockets inside the nappy. Plus it came with an added booster that I thought was brilliant.

3. Were the Instructions for washing and prepping the nappy straight forward?

Very basic washing and prepping for this nappy.

4. Did the nappy require washing before first use, and did you?

The nappy did require washing before use and yes I washed it before use.

5. Does the nappy come apart for easy washing and drying?

So easy to take apart for washing and drying.

6. How long did it take the Nappy to dry?

The nappy dries very fast and the inserts within a few hours with good sun.

7. Did you use the nappy the first time through the day or night?

I have not used this nappy for night’s yet. My boys are heavy wetters so I am worried about many for night’s.

8. When you used the nappy the first time, how absorbent was the nappy. Please give a rating out of 5, with 1 being not so absorbent and 5 being very absorbent.

This nappy was absorbent from the start with a 4 and stayed happily there at a 4.

9. Did bubs have any appearance of redness from the use of the nappy, eg. around the legs or waist?

No redness or irritation from this nappy

10. How do you feel about the Baby Kangas nappy after using it the first time?

It’s a lovely nappy. Easy to use and well absorbent. This one is used a lot in my rotation of nappies.

Naw how cute bis that photo! I have concerns for my MCN’s overnight too. My boy is also a very heavy wetter and often wakes in the morning with a massive #2. TMI I know sorry! Which of the brands have you used over night? and what have you been using as a liner?

i love the concept of the pocket being in front AND has a zipper! But this is the first time i have ever heard of Baby Kangs

Lisa the extra insert, is it just a lay in insert?

Does the nappy fit Ishaq as well? I can see they are velcro like the GroVia?

How bulky is the nappy? Can trousers be worn over it or would it be a struggle because it looks bulky in the pic, but maybe coz cute Elyas is lying down?

Also Lisa, the extra insert, any stains after the poo and how easy was it to remove poo?

Hi Guys. Lauren I love Sustainable Hemp Products Heavy Wetter Sandman for nights as well as Issy bears. Both of them are my night time nappy of choice ;) And using just disposable liners for a liner. Thankfully I was given some from a few of the companies who gave nappies. SO generous they were!

Hiya Rubina this pocket nappy is GREAT! I put Both of the inserts into the pocket and then it’s just the lovely fluff against baby’s bottom. My son has a great poo schedule so I can predict his timings. I use a liner when I know he will do one and then let him enjoy the fluff on his bottom the rest of the time.

This nappy also washes up so well from poos. I haven’t got a stain on it and I use this nappy constantly. It’s a wonderfully trim nappy that looks great under any clothes too :) This nappy fits both of the boys nicely.

It’s a snap closure not velcro. Sorry I didn’t show that well :)

óh at last a pocket nappy where the poop can’t seep into the pocket!!! this sounds awesome!!!! I love that the pocket on front with the zip!! is the pocket access from outside or inside?

i love that it’s snap too, not a fan of velcro! do you find your toddler rips the velcro ones off Lisa? mine does which is why almost all my nappies are snaps.

  • Meg said:

i also love to hear that no poop stains remain – i do find in some nappies stains happen easily.

i can’t believe i haven’t heard of these nappies before now. OSFM too which is a big savings! I am definitely looking at one size nappies for next babies – expecting twins so will need LOTS of nappies!!!

How many do you go through a day with Elias?

  • Meg said:

lol i just noticed Elias’s singlet – little stinker bahahaha oh so cute!! and looking very proud in his mcn :P

  • Bec said:

What an awesome concept – pocket on the outside with a zipper. Have never heard that before, sounds very interesting!

  • Tennille said:

I just had a closer look at these on their website. The zippered pocket does open from the outside. Which is good. I was thinking a zipper on the inside would be uncomfortable.

  • Meg said:

yeah me too Tenille! I think it’s at the front there in the photo is that right Lisa? I really could love these style of pocket nappies!

Something else that annoys me about other pocket nappies is often when you go to put it on and pull it up at front to snap or velcro all the inserts slide back so you have to take it off and push them back so tehy go all the way to the top at the front. DRIVES ME CRAZY! Am I making sense? LOL I would so love to try one of these :)

  • Lisa Abejja said:

yeah the pocket opens at the front Megs :D it’s wonderful. plus if it’s pooey you can grab the inserts out to clean without getting the yuck on your hands BONUS ! I don’t know how many I go through with Elias it depends upon how much he’s feeding. Generally about 7 I guess cos I change very often.

I love the snaps on this nappy too but I love velcro too. Ishaq hasn’t realised he can open them yet. Megs lol Little stinker fits him so well ;)

If you like pocket nappies you guys will love this one. I do :)

I do like pocket nappies in that you can boost heaps but don’t like that all the others have pockets on inside at back. Is really annoying! this pocket nappy I think I would love!!

Good that Ishaq hasn’t discovered the velcro yet! Xander is ok in velcro ones as long as he has pants over top. Velcro is also good for getting aperfect fit as sometimes with snaps you can be in between snaps if you know what I mean? Can be a little too tight or a little too loose. But I still prefer snaps!

7 nappies is pretty good! And he’s a big feeder I know :P oh dear all I can think is when I have twins it will be about 10 nappies each at least for each and then Xander who is about 5 nappies a day OMG THAT”S 25 NAPPIES A DAY at least OHHHH NOOOOO!!!! But the savings by not buying disposables will be HUGE! and no adding to landfill ;)

Do you think this nappy would fit a new born? I am having a lot of difficulty with pocket nappies fitting properly on my bub, most of the pocket nappies are osfa, but the ones I have just don’t seem to work!

I do like the fact that these nappies look nice and simple with the plain colours and simple designs.

Do you have a favourite nappy yet?

  • Lisa Abejja said:

Megs yeah OMG you are gonna have fun washing but on the flip side imagine the cost of disposable diapering twins and a toddler ! That’s at least $100 a week. So much money !!!

Talitha possibly. I don’t have skinny babies so they all fit my little one and toddler well. My 17 week old is almost 9kg now so he is a chubby thing and his legs fill out the holes. But on saying that he is in the middle snaps of most nappies as a medium/large nappy. I think it would fit a newone pretty well :)

  • rubina said:

sounds like a wonderful nappy :)

  • Meg said:

oh yeah the savings by not buying disgustables will be HUGE!! My partner and I are VERY VERY happy about that! We spent a fortune on sposies in first 8 months of my son’s life. So regret that once I started cloth. I bet you are looking back with all your boys and thinking – so should have started cloth so long ago! Think of all the money you’d have!

  • talitha said:

Oh cool, I must just be buying the wrong pocket nappies then! I might try these ones out though.
I think pocket nappies are such a great concept and are the easiest of the nappies to wash, not to mention the fast drying time..great when you have no dryer!

I have to second meg on that, we chose to go cloth just because I saw a few great websites and saw how cute they are, and also because we aren’t that wealthy. I bought a nappy every week or so while I was pregnant and we ended up with a nice amount. I went into hospital for a few days 2 weeks after I had bub and I was forced to use disposables. In that week I could have bought 2 cloth nappies with the money I wasted on disposables! Those cloth nappies I could have had would of lasted me for all the kids I may end up having, using 3 times a week each over 3 years each child..which would have saved me buying 2700 nappies for 3 kids. Yikes.

How long does this nappy last on your heavy wetter Lisa??

  • rubina said:

25 nappies a day!!! My god Meg, that’ll be one clothes line to picture, i am dreaming about this nappy every night (or it seems so!)
How long does the nappy last before you need a change Lisa, any leaks so far?

  • Meg said:

I know Rubina that that’s just during the day -will be more like 30 I reckon counting nights :S CRAZY!! I am going to need to be organised with the washing and drying as cannot afford many nappies at all till the baby bonus comes in! Am dreading having to turn to disposables :(

  • theresa said:

the zip sounds like a good idea…and that’s in the front of the nappy….i have found that with all my pocket nappies my daughter gets a wet back!

  • Jo G said:

Looks like a great nappy! :) Are they easy to stuff? I have a couple of pockets and the inserts move towards the back or front, do these move around or stay put? I hate it when my inserts move!!!
